Not everyone wants to live on the road. But then again, there are definitely people who enjoy the freedom of being out on your own and seeing the country end to end.
The good news is you can take your pick!
There are 3 basic options when it comes to time away from home and living on the road for periods of time.
- OTR (Over the Road) Driving
Maximum independence and freedom to be your own boss and see different parts of the world. Typical drivers are out 3 weeks at a time. - Regional Driving
This is a moderate level of independence and freedom to be your own boss and see states in your region. Typical drivers are out 1 to 2 weeks. - Dedicated and Local Driving
In this scenario, you’ll learn your local route and typically be home every night or every other night. You can still be your own boss, but you won’t travel as far away to see new things.
So, if life on the road sounds like your thing, shoot for OTR positions. If you’ve got family or don’t want to be away for long, lean toward region or local driving options.
