A federal decision to cut off worker visas for commercial truckers has sparked a hiring race in the industry. FOX 10 spoke with a local truck driving school to learn about the impact of the new ruling.
A career in truck driving is for everyone. We mean that. The starting salary for entry-level truck drivers with a CDL can range from $65,000 to $75,000 per year. This may vary depending on the region and the demand for truck drivers in that area. Experienced and skilled truck drivers with a clean driving record, can earn six figures or more annually. Some long-haul truckers who own their trucks or work as owner-operators may have the potential to earn even more.

As a base level, you’ll need to earn your CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) – which typically takes anywhere from several weeks up to 6 months depending on a number of factors. ELDT (Entry Level Driver Training) aims to ensure that commercial drivers receive proper training before obtaining a commercial driver’s license.

I searched and compared many CDL schools here in the valley and MG Truck Driving School was at the top of my list. One of the biggest deciding factors for me was the smaller class size. Each instructor typically has 3-5 students, so you receive a more personalized training approach, and you get an exponential amount of time behind the wheel training, other schools have 15-20+ students per instructor and your training is very limited. These other schools seem corporatized and only want your money, hence the large class sizes. MG Truck Driving has a completely different atmosphere and training program, you’ll feel right at home. The instructors are truly the best in the business, knowledgeable, patient, and dedicated to ensuring every student’s success. This school is also the only one with a state-of-the-art simulator, which provided invaluable hands-on practice, allowing me to hone my skills in a safe environment before hitting the road. Overall, MG Truck Driving School is committed to excellence and its ability to prepare students for a successful career in truck driving. I highly recommend this school!!
I am currently a student at MG and this school is as good as they come! The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable and fun to learn from. The process is streamlined and efficient at making you a competent CDL driver with the skill set needed for the real world, not just the bare minimum to pass the CDL test. Also the equipment is great, from Sleepers to Day cabs and automatic transmissions. Plus a new Truck simulator to help get rid of your bad habits, it is a great resource in your training. It’s been just a few weeks, but these guys already feel like family. After hearing about some friends experiences at their schools, I am really glad I chose this place! Also my class is mostly girls, it made it a lot of fun. If you are thinking about it, Do it! This place is great.
1 month update
I graduated two weeks ago with my Class A CDL. First thing I did was get my Hazmat and Tanker endorsements with MG, took about two days, then had to wait about four days for Fingerprint clearance to come back. Then Applied for several jobs and got hired Driving a Diesel refueling tanker, I just finished my first week of training today, my first week’s pay check was over $1800 and I love the job! Thank
I had a great time at this driving school. I found it due to a facebook video with fox 10 as it was a super new school. It was super convenient as I lived very close and not many cdl schools are flexible since I couldn’t leave work. All the trainers were great from Kim, David and bill really taught you everything you needed to know and stayed calm and for new drivers that what puts us at ease. I want to thank this school for helping me pursue my new career thank you!
